Blueberry - Patriot
The shallow, fibrous roots need constant moisture and good drainage. Plants appreciate a good organic mulch. Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces the best fruit crop. Blueberries are a delicious gourmet treat that may be eaten fresh or used in cobbler, cake, sauce, jam, jelly or syrup. It likes an organically rich, medium to wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. It is self-pollinating. Its waxy, bell-shaped, white flowers appear in May, which makes it an early season variety. The Patriot Blueberry, Vaccinium 'Patriot', has large blue fruit with excellent blueberry flavor, borne in tight clusters, and ripening in late July. This vigorous, upright and open shrub is an excellent landscape plant with its spring flowers and orange fall color. Prune early before spring growth. Birds love blueberries so be sure to plant enough to share!. Blueberries are delicious, exceptionally nutritious, high in bioflavanoids. Its cold hardiness and consistent crops of giant (quarter-sized) fruit make it a popular selection. Patriot is a highbush blueberry cultivar which typically grows 4-6’ tall.
