Butterfly Bush - Guinevere
Guinevere Butterflybush, Buddleia davidii 'Guinevere', is a beauty with large, purple to black, fragrant flowers. It likes full sun, is deer resistant, fragrant, and nice as a cut flower. Graceful green foliage arches with flowers from summer into fall. With the lustrous, dark blue-green foliage, it creates a harmonious balance and a focal point to any yard or garden. The common name aptly describes this garden beauty. It makes a wonderful cut flower, and of course, very attractive to butterflies. Flowers form on current growth. Butterfly bushes prefer full sun and must receive eight or more hours of sun a day to thrive and get the best blooms. Guinevere is best pruned in spring and will quickly grow back with many flowering canes. It is a vigorous grower and prolific bloomer. It comes alive in late spring, but it's worth the wait. Cut faded flowers off of bush regularly to keep it blooming throughout the summer. ... details
Butterfly Bush - White Removal of spent flower spikes during the growing season will encourage additional bloom, but consider leaving final blooms in place to facilitate reseeding. The White Butterfly bush, Buddleia davidii 'Alba', is easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun. Even if plants do not die to the ground in winter, they usually grow more vigorously, produce superior flowers and maintain a better shape if cut to the ground in late winter each year. Does poorly in wet conditions. In USDA Zones 5 and 6, this plant will often die to the ground in winter and therefore is often grown in the manner of an herbaceous perennial. This deciduous bush becomes weedy and sparse with diminished flowering performance if not grown in full sun. |
