Plant in the spring, after the last average frost date. The Celosia Pampas Plume provide a dramatic garden backdrop or focal point in beds, borders or containers. The soil needs to be kept evenly moist. Pamps Plume prefers fertile, well drained soil that is high in organic matter. The upright plumes are 6 to 12 inches tall with flowers the colors of scarlet, rose, carmine, gold, cream and bronze. The Celosia Pampas Plume, 'Celosia argentea plumosa', has dramatic masses of soft, feathery plumes that are stunning in fresh and dried flower arrangements. In 1972, bamboo slips, used to record recipes, were excavated from the Han dynasty tombs. Chinese celery was one of the ingredients on those recipes. The flavor is more robust than American celery. The leaves are generally stir-fried and incorporated into meat and fish dishes. It is also used in soups, stews, and rice dishes. In warm climates, sow in the fall. |
