‘Black Barlow’ should be planted in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moist well-drained soil. However, ‘Black Barlow’ has bloomed in some gardens until mid-August. The exquisite pleated flowers are extremely dark purple, almost black. With a height of 32" and a plant spread of 14-16”, you won’t want to miss this. It is best used in rock gardens or in containers and for beds and borders, in cottage gardens and it attracts butterflies. . Mullein - Summer Sorbet ‘Summer Sorbet’ can be planted in rocky slopes to add color, as a border plant or in cottage gardens. PPAF. This low maintenance perennial requires dry to medium soil and should be planted in full sun for best results. Verbascum will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions but must have good drainage or it could be fatal. The Verbascum Summer Sorbet, 'Verbascum hybridum', also known as Mullein, has masses of magenta purple flowers with a hint of peach and raspberry eyes. Removing spent flowers will encourage additional bloom time. ‘Summer Sorbet’ has a plant height of 2’ and a plant spread of 12-18” and blooms from late spring into summer. It is said to be one of the most floriferous of all Verbascum. The stalks arise off of large, glossy, green leaves, which add contrast to the flower color.
