Gladiolus - Blue Isle
The Blue Isle, 'Gladiolus Blue Isle', a spring planted corm, exhibits magnificent dark blue flowers with a light blue heart. They make striking accents in a mixed border. Glads are easy to grow and like to be in full sun and in well drained soil. Plant in groups of six or more in the garden, or grow lots of them for cuttings in a bed. To extend the time of flower availability of your Glads, plant in two week intervals from early spring through June. Increase water and fertility when flowers begin to develop, then plant 4" deep in clay soils, 6" deep in others; the deeper the planting the less need for staking. In frost prone areas, dig them when the leaves turn yellow, dip them in a fungicide, and store in a dry frost free location over winter. Geranium - Southcombe Double For the most part, cranesbill are long-lived and do not require a lot of care. They do best in sun, but will tolerate some degree of shade. Southcombe Double blooms almost non-stop throughout the summer, into fall. The Geranium Southcombe Double, 'Geranium oxonianum', displays fully double, pure pink blooms that sit atop bright green stems. They are perfect in the perennial border and work well as a ground cover too. Geraniums are grown in almost any soil as long as it is not wet. |
