Hollyhock - Chaters Mix
Alcea is a wonderful plant near the back of the border, working great along walls or fences. They are best planted in full sun in a well-drained area. The Hollyhock family is made up of a rather large group that exhibits tall stature (4-6') and being biennial in nature. The Hollyhock 'Chater's Mix', Alcea rosea, has a wide array of flower colors including pink, red and yellow. The large blooms of 'Chater's Mix Hollyhock' flower in the summer months. Diascia - Ice Pole Like a polar bear in a jungle, this Twinspur really stands out. Diascia derives it's Latin name from two words, 'di' meaning two and 'askos' meaning pouch, referring to the flower. Icy white flowers showcase this plant. They'll produce showers of flowers in spring to early summer until the daytime temperatures get really hot. Plant this gorgeous Diascia in full sun in fertile well drained soil. Space plants 8" - 10" apart. Diascia is probably best suited to be grown in mixed containers or window boxes,although they can be grown in beds. Keep the soil moist, but not soggy.
