Prune to shape after flowering. The flashy and fragrant flowers will attract hummingbirds and butterflies all summer long. Honeysuckles are easy to grow, vigorous, and nearly indestructible. Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, Emerald Mound prefers moist, loamy soils. It can be intolerant of hot and humid summers. Many honeysuckles will thrive in containers as well. The summer blooming flowers are yellow-white and produce dark red berries in fall. Honeysuckle - Red Rum It produces masses of white flowers that mature to yellow followed by profusion of 1/4" bright red fruit persisting into winter. Leaves acquire a yellow fall color. The Red Rum Honeysuckle, Lonicera maackii, is a deciduous shrub that grows to 8' to 12'. Adaptable to poor soils and is shade tolerant. Excellent as winter wildlife food source, windbreaks and landscaping. It has an upright vase shape.
