Ice Plant - Mesa Verde

Delosperma looks great as a ground cover in a rock garden or in front of a perennial border. Delosperma has a plant spread of 12” and a height of 2”. The foliage, which makes this plant a real winner, is deep green, almost succulent looking and extremely shinny. It does prefer dry and sandy soil and does not like wet soil in the winter. PPAF. Hot conditions keep the flowers blooming most of the summer and it requires little to no care. For best results, plant Delosperma ‘Mersa Verde’ in a sunny area, with some afternoon shade, with well- drained soil. Astilbe - Montgomery Astilbe is considered to be deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds. The Astilbe ‘Montgomery’, Astilbe japonica, has wonderful deep red to scarlet-red flowers with dark red-bronze foliage changing to green in the spring. In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune in early spring. A moist, well-drained area is key for this plant. The flowers contrast wonderfully with the glossy foliage. Astilbe ‘Montgomery’ blooms in mid summer and is 20” tall and a plant width of 24”. Astilbe can be used as cut flowers, perennial borders or shade gardens with Hosta’s and Ferns. It is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Montgomery’ to dry out.
