Lettuce - Romaine Freckles
The Lettuce Romaine Freckles, 'Lactuca sativa', is an Heirloom Romaine with maroon splotches that handles heat well. Successive plantings can produce lettuce spring through fall. Plant in early spring, 3 to 4 weeks before the average last frost date, and successive plantings thereafter every 3 weeks until 5 weeks before fall frost. Lettuce likes light, fertile, moist, and well drained soils. Make a non-traditional Caesar salad with this gorgeous romaine. Lettuce is a cool season annual. Lettuce grows well near cabbage, beets, carrots, chives, garlic, and onion. They will grow in light shade. This Heirloom is both heat tolerant and very tasty. Carrot - Healthmaster The Carrot Healthmaster, 'Daucus carota var staivus (hybrid)', is a new big hunk of carrot weighing in at around 1. It also contains 35% more vitamin A value than any Danvers carrot. The Healthmaster is resistant to growth cracks and has excellent flavor. Even with the long growth period, they will mature anywhere regular carrots are grown if planted in the spring. Thsi carrot is great for juicers. The first sowing should be 2 to 4 weeks before the last frost. In very warm climates carrots are grown primarily in the fall. The single most important factor in growing carrots is to have a deep, clod and rock free, well drained soil. |
