Lilac - Miss Kim
It is thought by many to be the number one Lilac in the Midwestern United States. Miss Kim has the best fall color of any Lilac, a reddish purple. The blossoms are even more plentiful when it is planted in full sun. This shrub is resistant to powdery mildew, but suffers under prolonged drought conditions, when it may drop many of its leaves. Compact and upright-rounded in form, it slowly grows to five feet tall and wide. The Lilac' Miss Kim', Syringa patula 'Miss Kim', is a very popular shrub. The Miss Kim Lilac makes a wonderful shrub for foundation plantings. It has an abundance of fragrant blossoms in spring that are dark lavender-pink in bud and fade to a very soft lavender-pink when fully opened. Honeysuckle - Red Rum It has an upright vase shape. Adaptable to poor soils and is shade tolerant. It produces masses of white flowers that mature to yellow followed by profusion of 1/4" bright red fruit persisting into winter. Leaves acquire a yellow fall color. Excellent as winter wildlife food source, windbreaks and landscaping. The Red Rum Honeysuckle, Lonicera maackii, is a deciduous shrub that grows to 8' to 12'. |
