Lilac - Sensation
The scent is true lilac and draws lots of attention when in bloom during May. Sensation Lilac, Syringa vulgaris 'Sensation', is an eye-catching French Hybrid Lilac that has single, fragrant, deep purple flowers that are bordered with a distinctive white edge. It grows 8-10 feet tall and 8-12 feet wide. If one removes flowers as they fade, as well as older wood and suckers, it will improve the plants appearance and flower production. Sensation Lilac can be used in many situations, including shrub borders, informal hedges and perennial borders. The blooms are complemented by heart-shaped foliage. Being very showy and extremely fragrant, it makes a wonderful screen or border specimen. It prefers full sun, good drainage and air circulation. Sensation Lilac adds a distinctive flair to cut flower bouquets. ... more information
Butterfly Bush - White In USDA Zones 5 and 6, this plant will often die to the ground in winter and therefore is often grown in the manner of an herbaceous perennial. Even if plants do not die to the ground in winter, they usually grow more vigorously, produce superior flowers and maintain a better shape if cut to the ground in late winter each year. This deciduous bush becomes weedy and sparse with diminished flowering performance if not grown in full sun. Removal of spent flower spikes during the growing season will encourage additional bloom, but consider leaving final blooms in place to facilitate reseeding. The White Butterfly bush, Buddleia davidii 'Alba', is easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun. Does poorly in wet conditions. |
