Sweet Pea - Perfume Delight A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Perfume Delight is very early planting. The Sweet Pea Perfume Delight, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a mixture of several colors of very fragrant sweet peas. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. The flowers are slightly smaller, 3/4 to 1 inch flowers, than other annual sweet peas, but they are more heat resistant. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. They will bloom about 1 week longer than other sweet peas.
