Salvia - Lady in Red

This red-spiked variety performs well in containers and small space gardens. The Salvia Lady in Red, 'Salvia coccinea', is an elegant alternative to the more familiar scarlet salvia varieties usually seen in bedding schemes. They are virtually irresistible to hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Pruning these plants after flowering will produce sideshoots in spring for cuttings. They are very uniform plants and are heat and drought tolerant. The flower-spikes have all the vivacity of those popular plants, but they are longer and less cluttered with blooms, which gives the plants an airy grace and more of a shrub-like appearance. ... more
