Sassy Salad Mesclun

For continuous harvest, cut rather than pull the greens and sow successive plantings every 3 weeks. Soil must be kept moist while the seeds are germinating and beginning to grow. Be sure to keep the weeds pulled so they do not compete with the plants for water and sun. In mild climates, sow seed during cooler months, generally October through March. Sassy Salad Mesclun is prized by gourmet chefs and down-home cooks alike for the wide range of flavors, textures and colors that add fresh appeal to even the simplest salad. Mesclun is the French name for a mixture of salad greens. In cool climates plant in the spring, 3 to 6 weeks before the last average frost date. Mescluns are often harvested young for "baby greens" and sold already pre-mixed at farmers markets and grocery stores. Bachelor Button - Dwarf Mix In addition to the wonderful blend of colors, Bachelor Button Dwarf Mix has other admirable traits including drought tolerance. In warm climates, plant in late summer or early fall for winter bloom. Bachelor Button will naturalize as the seeds the plant drops will quite readily come back the next year to produce another crop of beautiful flowers. Bachelor Button will perform the best in relatively dry soils. The Bachelor Button Dwarf Blend, 'Centaurea cyanus', is a blend of purple, light blue, pink, and white flowers that will impress you. Plant in the spring, 1 to 2 weeks before the last frost. Bachelor Button is also known as Cornflower. The flowers can be used as dried or cut flowers. Bachelor Button prefers full sun but they will withstand some light shade.
