The flowers and dry seed capsules are wonderful in arrangements. The Cleome Violet Queen, 'Cleome spinosa', is a knockout! It is easy to grow and lends authority to any garden with the wonderful late summer color. The Violet Queen is a wonderful flower to attract butterflies. Violet Queens bloom in late July through first frosts, and remain hardy if grown in protected sites. The Violet Queen is best planted in back of beds or next to a wall, trellis, or fence.
A Gaggle Of Gourds Once cured, hard shelled gourds will last indefinitely and can be painted, carved, cut or drilled to make birdhouses, bowls, planters and hundreds of other craft projects. For thousands of years, gourds have been grown to used as utensils, storage containers, musical instruments, and ornamental objects. This gourd mix includes Birdhouse or Bottle Gourd, Calabash or Penguin, Corsican, Dipper, and Speckled Swan. Gourds are very frost sensitive. The soils should be well drained and very rich in organic matter. Place in full sun.
