The plant may be pruned back hard occasionally to rejuvenate. It grows 4-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Clusters of small white single flowers appear in early spring. It makes an excellent shrub border or as a specimen plant. Dwarf Garland Spirea, spiraea x arguta 'Compacta', is an attractive dwarf, compact plant with very fine textured foliage. Weigela - Red Prefers well-drained soil. It grows best in full sun to partial sun. Foliage is deep, purple-tinted green and forms a compact mound, reaching 6' when mature. The Red Weigela, Weigela Vaniceki, is a deciduous shrub with dark red flowers. Prune older branches after they finish blooming. It is a full sized plant with good hardiness.
