Sweet Pea - Ocean Foam
Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. The sweet peas bloom in the spring and the duration of blooming depends on the weather. The plants stop blooming once the weather warms up. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. They are used for cut flowers, ground cover, fence and wall covering, and in large pots. The Sweet Pea Ocean Foam, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a special blend of heirloom old spice sweet peas that are highly scented and heat resistant. The Ocean Foam is a blend of navy, med-blue, light blue and cream colored 1 to 2 inch flowers. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Ocean Foam is very early planting. They will generally bloom 3 to 5 weeks. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Swiss Chard - Fordhook Giant Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last frost or as late as 2 months before first fall frost. The Swiss Chard Fordhook Giant, 'Beta vulgaris', will grow in heat and cold, is nutritious, and has a long harvest period. Fordhook Giant can either be steamed, stir-fried, or eaten fresh. Chard grows best in in well drained soil with lots of organic matter. instead of growing beets, the plant grows wide, dark green, heavily crumpled leaves that are very tasty.
