Viburnum - Chicago Lustre® Arrowwood

Chicago Lustre is a medium-sized to large-sized ornamental shrub maturing at about 8-10 feet in height and width, although larger under optimum conditions. This viburnum is highly adaptable to dry soils, poor soils, soils of various pH, heat, drought, and pollution. The fruit are deep porcelain blue to blue-purple, maturing in August and providing food for the birds. It makes an excellent formal or informal hedge, border, entranceway, foundation, utilitarian, group planting, naturalizing, or specimen shrub. It has an upright oval growth habit in youth, becoming arching, spreading, and suckering with age. Viburnum tend to be multi-season plants with ornamental value throughout a large part of the season. The creamy white flowers bloom in June and mature into clusters of globe-shaped fruit. It is very urban tolerant. It has a medium growth rate and prefers full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soils. Mockorange - Snowbelle Philadelphus 'Snowbelle', Philadelphus 'Snowbelle', is a Canadian introduction. Prune if needed after it blooms in spring. Adaptable to many soils, moderate moisture, and it is deer resistant. This low grower will be 3-4' tall and 3-4 feet wide, and is excellent as a classic traditional garden plant. Mock orange has many uses in the landscape and its especially enjoyable when grown near a walkway, patio or driveway where one can enjoy its beauty and fragrance.
