Virginia Blue Bells
The Virginia Blue Bells, 'Mertensia virginiana', display dainty clusters of pink flower buds open to porcelain blue bell-shaped flowers. Some of the common names are Virginia Cowslip, Lungwort Oysterleaf, and Roanoke Bells. Virginia bluebell plants grow 12 to 24 inches tall. The pastel colors of the flowers and foliage are soft and soothing. Naturalizing over time, they are very hardy and easy to grow. They can survive in semi-shaded floodplain areas along rivers, bluffs, and flower gardens. The foliage dies down by mid-summer. They prefer light shade to partial sun in moist wooded areas with rich soil. ... additional info
Geranium - Southcombe Double For the most part, cranesbill are long-lived and do not require a lot of care. This plant would look wonderful in a pot on a sun-drenched porch and is also deer resistant. Southcombe Double blooms almost non-stop throughout the summer, into fall. The Geranium Southcombe Double, 'Geranium oxonianum', displays fully double, pure pink blooms that sit atop bright green stems. There are only a few double-geraniums in cultivation and don't look like a Geranium at first glance. Geraniums are grown in almost any soil as long as it is not wet. They do best in sun, but will tolerate some degree of shade. They are perfect in the perennial border and work well as a ground cover too. |
