White Walnut
This tree has a short trunk which is divided into a few ascending limbs with large spreading, sparsely forked branches. Nuts resemble Black Walnut, but smaller, with an oily, spicy flavor. White Walnut trees grows fast, especially as a seedling, but usually does not live longer than 75 years. Tree is best known for the rich quality of its wood. The White Walnut tree, Juglans cinerea, also known as White walnut and Butternut tree is a small to medium-sized tree. The crown is open, broad, irregular in outline and rounded at the top. The smaller branches tend to bend downwards and then turn up at the ends. Usually a taproot develops in deep soils. It makes a good shade tree. Lacebark Elm This deciduous shade tree is a very hardy, tough tree that is capable of withstanding the rigors of harsh climates, poor soils and streetscape situations. The species is known for quick growth, particularly if planted in fertile, well drained soils. The dark green, oval leaves of the lacebark elm vary from 3/4 to 2 1/2 inches in length. Fall leaf color is variable, but some yellowish to reddish purple is possible even in warmer climates. The bark of this elm is perhaps its finest feature. |
